Le bouclier de Zacatecas a la Vierge Marie, une croix, un soleil, une lune et la colline Bufa dessinée dans le seul champ central.
Avec eux se trouvent quatre membres de l'armée espagnole avec une armure de colonisation. De plus, il possède une couronne au-dessus du bouclier et des jeux de flèches sur les côtés.
En 1588, le roi Felipe II, par un certificat royal, désigna le bouclier à la région de Zacatecas. Cette province des États-Unis mexicains est située dans la zone centrale du pays, tout près du district fédéral mexicain.
Sa ville et sa capitale la plus peuplée est Zacatecas, comme le nom de l'État. Il a des frontières avec d'autres entités fédérales mexicaines telles que Nuevo León, Coahuila, Jalisco, Guanajuato, entre autres.

Les armoiries de Zacatecas ont subi plusieurs modifications au cours de l'histoire, la dernière étant la douzième altération. Le bouclier a déjà plus de 400 ans comme symbole de la région.

Au milieu du bouclier se trouve la Vierge Marie, qui est devenue l'un des principaux bastions religieux des Mexicains au cours des derniers siècles.
À tel point que la procession de la Vierge de Guadalupe est la plus grande du monde. C'est pourquoi, dans le bouclier de Zacatecan, la Virgen del Patrocinio, patronne de la région, est soulignée.
2) Colline de La Bufa
Derrière la Vierge Marie se trouve la colline de Bufa, située dans le centre historique de la ville de Zacatecas. C'est un relief particulier qui culmine à 2 600 mètres d'altitude.
En 1914, c'était le centre de la bataille entre les hommes de Pancho Villa et l'armée de Victoriano Huerta.

Des deux côtés du bouclier se trouvent un ensemble de flèches qui font référence aux cultures indigènes de la ville de Zacatecas, dont les principales armes étaient des flèches.
Vénérant la Vierge Marie sont quatre hommes avec une armure typique des armées espagnoles, qui font allusion aux premiers membres de l'armée de la couronne espagnole qui ont aperçu la colline de La Bufa.
4) Le soleil, la croix et la lune
Dans la partie supérieure de la caserne centrale, ensemble au-dessus de la Vierge Marie, il y a une croix qui symbolise le premier ermitage de la Vierge, qui est aujourd'hui connue comme le sanctuaire de la Vierge de Patrocinio.
Sur les côtés de la croix se trouvent le soleil et la lune qui expriment l'idée que toujours après la nuit noire le soleil se lèvera à l'aube et un nouveau jour commencera avec de nouvelles opportunités.

Comme dans la grande majorité des boucliers mexicains, la couronne est un élément central et important.
Il montre la puissance du royaume sur ses territoires dominés, en plus de l'autorité du roi, c'est pourquoi il est situé au-dessus de tout le bouclier.
Au bas du tableau est inscrite la phrase: Labor omnia vincit, écrite en latin et dont la traduction est «le travail conquiert tout».
