Les zones archéologiques de Morelos représentent l'une des principales attractions touristiques du Mexique et contiennent une partie des centres d'art et des monuments de l'Antiquité les plus importants du monde.
Morelos est un état situé dans la région du centre-sud du Mexique, composé de 33 municipalités dont 31 ont des noms autochtones de la culture nahuatl.
La capitale de Morelos est la ville de Cuernavaca et autour d'elle divers centres archéologiques ont été établis, parmi lesquels Xochicalco, Teopanzolco, Coatetelco, Chalcatzingo et Las Pilas, entre autres, se distinguent.

Les sites archéologiques les plus remarquables de Morelos
Xochicalco
Xochicalco est un centre archéologique situé dans la municipalité de Miacatlán, à 38 km de Cuernavaca.
Parmi ses attractions se trouvent la pyramide du serpent à plumes et un observatoire qui contient une grotte avec des marches creusées à l'intérieur et éclairée par les rayons du soleil pendant l'équinoxe.
Il possède également de grandes chaussées, des pyramides, des structures, des escaliers et une impressionnante acropole, située sur le site le plus élevé, qui à l'époque servait de temple-palais et accueillait des ateliers spécialisés contrôlés par l'État.
Xochicalco signifie dans la langue «à la place de la maison des fleurs».
Teopanzolco
Teopanzolco signifie "Dans l'ancien temple" également en langue nahuatl; Des études montrent que cette région a eu la première occupation dans la période post-classique moyenne, entre 1000 AD-1697 AD
Selon les historiens, les premiers colons de la région étaient les Tlauhicas et ils ont fini de s'y installer vers le 16ème siècle, au milieu et à la fin de la période post-classique.
Cette colonie comprend 14 bâtiments et sur la façade principale située à l'ouest, par des escaliers doubles, vous pouvez accéder aux temples: Tláloc, dieu de l'eau céleste et de la fertilité et Huitzilopochtli, dieu de la guerre et représentant du soleil.
Coatetelco
«Place des arbres au milieu d'un monticule» est ce que signifie le mot Coatetelco, le nom d'un centre archéologique situé à côté de la lagune de Coatetelco, tout près de la municipalité de Miacatlán.
Lorsque la puissance de Xochicalco a diminué, Coatetelco est devenu le site peuplé le plus important de la fin de la période préclassique.
Chalcatzingo
Dans la vallée des collines de Chalcatzingo et Delgado, le centre archéologique Chalcatzingo s'étend sur une terre très fertile.
C'est l'une des principales colonies qui a adopté des aspects de la culture olmèque et qui sont facilement identifiables dans la production artistique et architecturale. Il a été fondé vers l'an XV avant JC
Dans cet endroit, il est possible de trouver 75 terrasses avec une destination résidentielle, cérémoniale et même funéraire où des sépultures avec des ornements de jade et des miroirs de magnétite ont été trouvées; des pétroglyphes impressionnants apparaissent sur plusieurs des terrasses.
Les piles
Des études sur le site archéologique de Las Pilas suggèrent qu'il faisait partie de Chalcatzingo en tant que centre religieux ou commercial.
Ce qui est très clair, c'est que son sol était très riche en eau et a été exploité de telle manière qu'il a conduit à la construction d'un vaste réseau de canaux de stockage et de transport du liquide avec des conduits de drainage dans certaines structures.
