Les armoiries de Quito sont l'un des symboles patriotiques de la capitale de l'Équateur. Il représente à la fois la ville de San Francisco de Quito et le pays en général et représente la force, la noblesse et la géographie de la région.
Bien qu'il ait été légèrement modifié en 1944, le design est resté en grande partie le même depuis sa création en 1541.
Il a été accordé à l'Équateur par le roi Carlos I d'Espagne après avoir donné à Quito le titre qui l'a accréditée en tant que ville.
C'est le plus ancien bouclier parmi toutes les villes de l'Équateur et a été utilisé pour les actes de l'ancien conseil municipal depuis qu'il a été reçu d'Espagne.
Histoire des armoiries de Quito
À l'intérieur du bouclier, vous pouvez voir plusieurs éléments qui représentent d'une certaine manière certaines caractéristiques de Quito, en plus de plusieurs distinctions qui, selon la Couronne espagnole, symbolisaient les qualités des habitants du lieu, telles que leur fidélité.
La royauté de l'Empire espagnol a ordonné l'élaboration d'un bouclier, après avoir obtenu au moyen du premier certificat royal la reconnaissance de Quito comme ville, fondée le 6 décembre 1534.
Ceci a été présenté dans la municipalité de Talavera de la Reina, en Espagne, le 14 mars 1541.
Dès sa création, il est devenu le symbole officiel du Cabildo de Quito, étant un élément très apprécié et représentatif de l'Équateur, mais surtout des habitants de la capitale.
Éléments des armoiries de Quito
En regardant le bouclier, on peut voir qu'il est orné à l'extérieur de divers ajouts classiques de l'époque aux symboles et aux armoiries, tels que des plumes, des fleurs, des grappes de fruits et un casque.
À l'intérieur des armoiries intérieures, il y a un château entouré de montagnes, qui à leur tour ont des entrées aux grottes à l'intérieur.
Au sommet du château il y a une croix et sur les côtés de ces deux aigles noirs qui soutiennent la structure.
Un cordon borde l'image à l'extérieur des armoiries, entre le paysage avec le château et le trottoir.
Sens
Une partie de l'arrêté royal où le bouclier était décrit exprimait les mots «Un château d'argent niché entre deux collines ou rochers». Le château représente une forteresse ou une ville correctement gardée.
Les montagnes devant le château ont un double sens; celle de fortifier la ville pour la rendre sûre (une forteresse) et comme exemple de la géographie classique de Quito, qui compte de nombreuses montagnes et collines.
La remarquable activité minière de l'Espagne à son arrivée en Equateur est exposée dans les grottes face aux montagnes.
De leur côté, les aigles noirs au sommet du château sont un symbole du Saint Empire Romain, dont le roi d'Espagne était empereur.
La religion chrétienne est la touche finale du bouclier, un élément qui peut être vu dans la croix sur le château et la corde à côté du trottoir. Le cordon est en l'honneur de San Francisco, qui donne le nom officiel à la ville; San Francisco de Quito.
État actuel
Le bouclier a été modernisé en 1944, tous les éléments d'origine ont été conservés et retouchés pour les rendre plus visibles et agréables à l'œil.
Le bouclier d'origine ne se trouve pas en Equateur mais en Espagne, dans les archives des Indes de Séville.
