La population et l'échantillon correspondent à un concept statistique qui cherche à attirer l'attention sur un sous-groupe spécifique au sein d'un univers plus large d'individus.
La plupart des enquêtes visant à collecter des informations sur toute population d'objets, de personnes ou d'animaux, fonctionnent généralement avec un échantillon.
Comme un échantillon est un pourcentage beaucoup plus petit par rapport à la population totale (il ne dépasse généralement pas 20%), il est plus facile à examiner et à enquêter étant donné le petit nombre d'individus.
Les échantillons sont utilisés dans de nombreuses études sociales et pour les contrôles de qualité dans les entreprises qui produisent des articles en masse.
Exemples de population
Une population est un groupe fini ou infini d'objets, d'animaux ou de personnes qui partagent une caractéristique commune.
Les populations peuvent être trouvées dans n'importe quel contexte et en fonction de cela, leur taille peut aller de quelques dizaines à plusieurs millions. Quelques exemples de populations sont:
1- Population d'une université
Le nombre total de personnes qui étudient ou travaillent dans une université constitue une population.
Il est également possible de se référer uniquement aux étudiants, ce qui est plus courant. C'est peut-être l'exemple le plus classique, car dans les universités où les statistiques sont enseignées, les étudiants sont la population la plus proche et la plus connue à analyser.
2- Population animale dans une zone
Dans de nombreux parcs et réserves naturelles, la population totale d'animaux est contrôlée pour les empêcher d'épuiser leurs sources de nourriture ou leurs territoires.
3- Population d'habitants d'un pays
C'est l'exemple le plus connu à un niveau général, en raison des recensements effectués tous les plusieurs années par les gouvernements pour mesurer la croissance ou le déclin des communautés à travers une nation.
C'est une information importante pour le calcul de divers indicateurs socio-économiques.
4- Population de produits dans une chaîne de montage
Pour mesurer la capacité de production d'une machine ou d'une ligne d'assemblage.
5- Population de voitures dans une usine
Également applicable à tout article produit en série, il vous permet de connaître le nombre total d'articles en stock.
Exemples d'exemples
Un échantillon est un sous-ensemble fini d'éléments appartenant à un ensemble plus grand. Ils partagent certaines caractéristiques qui les différencient légèrement de la population générale.
Quelques exemples (en prenant comme population les exemples présentés ci-dessus):
1- Étudiants de première année
Au sein de la population de tous les étudiants d'un campus éducatif, seuls ceux de la première année peuvent être admis.
2- Espèces animales menacées
Compte tenu des animaux qui habitent une certaine zone, un échantillon pourrait être ceux en danger d'extinction.
3- Électeurs
Avant tout processus électoral, les médias mènent généralement des sondages pour faire des projections sur le candidat le plus populaire.
Ne pouvant interviewer qu'un très petit pourcentage du total, cela représente un échantillon de la population votante.
4- Produits testés
Toute entreprise qui fabrique des produits en vrac sélectionne généralement un petit échantillon pour subir des tests afin de garantir la qualité de la fabrication.
5- Voitures à double traction
Pour dresser un inventaire détaillé de la population totale d'un parc de voitures, un échantillon de voitures à quatre roues motrices pourrait être prélevé.
