Cependant, les réseaux ont également des conséquences négatives pour les jeunes. La nature massive de ce type de plate-forme rend quasiment impossible le contrôle du flux d'informations avec lequel les jeunes interagissent. Cela peut amener les jeunes à trouver un contenu inapproprié.

Ces portails offrent un espace de communication, de divertissement et d'apprentissage. Cependant, son utilisation excessive peut se traduire par des conséquences négatives pour les jeunes.
Voici quelques effets positifs et négatifs de ces plateformes.
1- Développement de nouvelles perspectives
Les réseaux sociaux permettent aux gens de s'exprimer librement. Pour cette raison, ils constituent une soupe d'idéologies.
Grâce à ces réseaux, les jeunes peuvent discuter de divers sujets avec des personnes du monde entier. De cette manière, ils pourront examiner les problèmes sous différents angles et voir lequel correspond le mieux à leur propre façon de penser.
En ce sens, les réseaux sociaux peuvent représenter un moyen pour les jeunes de se rencontrer en même temps qu'ils se connaissent.
2- Apprentissage
Lorsqu'ils sont utilisés avec prudence, les médias sociaux encouragent l'apprentissage chez les enfants et les adolescents. Ces plateformes permettent de partager instantanément les informations entre les utilisateurs.
Par exemple, de nombreux articles Tumblr traitent de sujets dont les informations sont difficiles à trouver sur d'autres sites Web en raison du fait qu'il s'agit de problèmes très récents.
Certains utilisateurs de ce réseau fournissent même des références dans lesquelles les informations peuvent être développées si on le souhaite.
Les jeunes utilisent également les réseaux pour pratiquer les nouvelles langues apprises et pour renforcer les compétences linguistiques de la langue maternelle.
3- Jeunes extravertis
Les réseaux sociaux favorisent la communication chez les enfants et les jeunes. En outre, ils promeuvent la liberté d'expression. De nombreux enfants et adolescents créent des blogs, des podcasts et des vidéos dans lesquels ils partagent leurs expériences, leurs connaissances et leurs compétences.
Cela peut rendre les utilisateurs plus ouverts et plus disposés à participer à d'autres activités.
4- Compréhension de la technologie
En étant plus connectés, les enfants et les adolescents ont acquis les outils nécessaires pour comprendre plus facilement la technologie.
5- Communication indirecte
La conséquence la plus impressionnante des médias sociaux est que les jeunes perdent leur amour de la communication directe. Au lieu de cela, ils préfèrent tenir des conversations via des plateformes telles que Facebook ou Twitter.
Ce type de communication indirecte crée une barrière entre les interlocuteurs. Les jeunes d'aujourd'hui sont des spécialistes de l'occupation de leur temps libre en parlant sur les réseaux sociaux via leurs appareils électroniques (téléphones portables, ordinateurs, tablettes, entre autres).
Tout le monde pouvait dire qu'avant l'existence des médias sociaux, les jeunes étaient également occupés.
La différence est qu'avant, ils préféraient sortir avec leurs amis et expérimenter alors qu'ils sont maintenant enfermés dans leur chambre, absorbés par le téléphone, manquant l'occasion de partager et d'essayer de nouvelles choses.
7- Victimes de la cyber violence
La cyber violence, également appelée cyberintimidation, est une forme de harcèlement qui se produit sur les réseaux sociaux.
La psychologue Donna Wick souligne à ce propos qu'à travers les réseaux, les jeunes font des propos offensants qu'ils n'oseraient pas dire en face à face.
En plus de cela, de nombreux jeunes profitent de l'anonymat offert par ces services de messagerie pour agacer leurs pairs.
La cyber-violence ou l'intimidation n'est pas aussi courante que d'autres types de violence. Cependant, c'est un problème social. Tous les jeunes utilisateurs des réseaux sociaux sont susceptibles d'être victimes de ce type de comportement.
La cyberintimidation a des conséquences négatives pour les enfants et les adolescents. Certains de ces effets comprennent la dépression, l'anxiété, l'exclusion et, dans le pire des cas, le suicide.
8- Hyperconnexion
Avec les progrès des technologies de la communication, les jeunes ne sont jamais complètement seuls. Il y aura toujours quelqu'un dans un réseau social avec qui vous pourrez parler. De nombreux jeunes ont plus d'amis virtuels qu'en face à face, ce qui crée un sentiment d'hyper-connectivité.
En soi, l'hyperconnexion n'est pas négative. Le problème se pose lorsque les jeunes deviennent trop attachés aux relations créées par les médias sociaux.
Dans ces cas, l'hyperconnexion peut générer de l'anxiété et du stress. Les utilisateurs peuvent présenter des images de dépression s'ils sentent qu'ils sont ignorés par leurs amis virtuels.
De plus, l'hyperconnexion peut amener les jeunes à avoir besoin de l'approbation des autres membres du réseau. Pour parvenir à l'acceptation, les enfants et les adolescents peuvent recourir à des pratiques inappropriées et adopter des comportements destructeurs.
