Marcheline Bertrand (1950-2007) était une actrice, productrice et militante qui, au cours des dernières années de sa vie, s'est consacrée, avec diverses organisations créées par elle, à donner des concerts pour des œuvres caritatives.
Elle était connue dans le monde du divertissement pour être la mère d'Angelina Jolie, qui a également hérité de cette sensibilité envers les autres. Sa fille Angelina l'appelait Marshmallow (nuage de bonbons) parce qu'elle était une femme très tendre et compréhensive. Bertrand a enseigné à ses enfants les valeurs et l'amour des autres.

Bertrand n'était qu'une gamine lorsqu'elle s'est enfuie de chez elle et s'est retrouvée à Hollywood parce qu'elle voulait être une star de cinéma. Dans la Mecque du cinéma américain, elle a rencontré son premier mari, Jon Voight, l'un des protagonistes du film Midnight Cowboy, et elle s'est mariée à l'âge de 21 ans.
Bien qu'elle soit d'origine canadienne-française par son père, sa fille Angelina a toujours plaisanté à ce sujet en disant qu'elle était loin d'être parisienne, ayant passé son enfance et son adolescence dans un environnement typiquement américain, dans un bowling que possédaient ses grands-parents.
Famille
Marcheline Bertrand est née en 1950, à Blue Island, Illinois, États-Unis. Dès son plus jeune âge, elle a épousé l'acteur Jon Voight en 1971, avec qui elle a eu deux enfants: Angelina Jolie et James Haven, tous deux acteurs.
De Voight a divorcé en 1978, puis a eu Bill Day comme partenaire, et les dernières années de sa vie John Trudell, avec qui il a donné plusieurs concerts de charité.
Son père était Roland Bertrand et sa mère Lois June. Il avait deux frères: une fille, Debbie, et un garçon, Raleigh. À l'âge de 15 ans, sa famille a déménagé de Chicago à Beverly Hills, où l'adolescente Bertrand a fréquenté le Beverly Hills High School de sa deuxième année jusqu'à ce qu'elle obtienne son diplôme.
Valeurs familiales
Le talent et le soutien aux enfants défavorisés étaient quelque chose que Marcheline Bertrand a inculqué à ses enfants, et que sa fille Angelina a si bien appris. Sa fille est connue dans le monde entier, en plus de ses rôles dans des films de classe mondiale, comme une combattante infatigable pour les enfants du monde.
Bertrand a toujours pris soin d'Angelina pour apprendre à comprendre le monde et ses problèmes, à aimer les enfants et à être un modèle impeccable pour sa fille.
Une tâche qui a duré toute l'enfance et l'adolescence et s'est terminée par la profonde admiration d'Angelina pour sa mère. Les deux femmes se ressemblaient physiquement et dans leur manière de voir la vie, ce qui a conduit la famille Bertrand à avoir tant de triomphes.
Films
La carrière cinématographique de Marcheline a commencé avec l'acteur, réalisateur et professeur de théâtre Lee Strasberg, qui avait été le professeur d'un autre artiste célèbre, le réalisateur Elia Kazan.
En 1971, il a caractérisé Connie dans la quatrième saison de la série télévisée Ironside, "Amour, paix, fraternité et meurtre". En 1982, elle a joué un rôle mineur dans le film À la recherche d'une issue, un film qui avait été co-écrit par son mari Jon Voight.
En 1983, il a joué un rôle dans le film The Man Who Loved Women. Ce film raconte les affaires d'un artiste, mais qui les raconte, c'est son analyste qui était aussi l'amant; il raconte l'obsession du protagoniste pour les femmes.
Producteur
Depuis 1983, Bertrand se consacre à la production de films et de documentaires. Cette même année, il fonde Woods Road Productions avec son partenaire et partenaire de l'époque, Bill Day.
Elle a également été la productrice exécutive du documentaire Trudell, en 2005, qui raconte la vie de son partenaire John Trudell, musicien et activiste. Avec ce film, ils ont eu beaucoup de résonance, car il faisait partie de la sélection officielle du Festival de Sundance et du Festival du film de Tribeca, et au Festival international du film de Seattle, il a remporté le prix du jury du meilleur documentaire.
Travail de bienfaisance
À l'instar de sa fille Angelina Jolie, qui en avait un exemple merveilleux, Marcheline a consacré une grande partie de sa vie à des œuvres caritatives, en particulier lorsqu'elle a quitté la comédie.
Avec son partenaire John Trudell, Bertrand a créé la All Tribes Foundation, avec laquelle ils ont essayé de soutenir les communautés autochtones, à la fois économiquement et en préservant les coutumes, la culture et les langues.
En 2007, le travail de toutes les tribus était important, puisque l'aide avait dépassé de loin 800000 dollars, argent qui servait à subventionner des programmes qui préservaient les modes de vie des tribus et avaient pour but de garantir un avenir sans besoins économiques pour les natifs.
En tant que connaisseuse du monde de la production et du théâtre, elle a donné plusieurs concerts en compagnie de Trudell qui ont aidé les réfugiés afghans. Lorsqu'elle a reçu un diagnostic de cancer de l'ovaire en 1999, elle n'a cessé de sensibiliser de nombreuses femmes à travers des campagnes publicitaires et des associations de soutien.
Mort
Les dernières années de la vie de Bertrand ont été la lutte contre le cancer de l'ovaire, jusqu'à ce qu'en 2007, il perd la bataille. Sa mère et sa sœur étaient également décédées d'un cancer.
Ces dernières années, elle a voulu être loin des caméras et n'a pas accordé d'interview. Il est décédé à l'âge de 56 ans, au Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, entouré de ses plus proches parents et de ses deux enfants: Angelina et James.
L'enterrement n'a pas eu lieu qui était son premier mari, l'acteur Jon Voight, a seulement envoyé une lettre de condoléances à leurs enfants. Les relations tendues de Bertrand et Voight étaient connues et elle a toujours dit qu'elle n'était pas intéressée à avoir à nouveau une quelconque relation avec lui.
Trois ans après la mort de Marcheline, ses enfants Angelina et James lui ont rendu hommage dans une vidéo intitulée For Mommy with Love, qui présentait des images d'Angelina, à peine 6 ans, jouant sur la plage à Hawaï en 1981.
Bertrand a laissé un héritage important à ses petits-enfants, les trois premiers enfants d'Angelina. Il a également laissé une partie de sa fortune à Angelina et James, ses enfants, ainsi qu'à ses petits-enfants Maddox, Zahara et Shiloh, qu'il a connu un peu avant de mourir.
